Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect at Our session?
At a family photography session, you can expect a warm and enjoyable experience focused on capturing genuine moments and cherished memories. I normally like to start with full family, traditional photos where everyone is in the picture and looking at the camera. This helps everyone get to know me and eases those who are a little hesitant in front of the lens. My goal is to create a relaxed and comfortable environment where everyone can be themselves. I'll provide gentle guidance and direction when needed, but I'll also encourage natural interactions and genuine expressions to capture the true essence of your family. After we get those photos, I like to take some candid, more personable shots that highlight personalities. I love asking kids to play during the session because it captures who they are in that moment that can be paused forever. We'll capture a mix of candid moments and posed portraits to provide a special collection of images. From group shots to individual portraits, I'll ensure that we capture the unique dynamics and personalities within your family. Overall, you can expect a fun, relaxed, and personalized photography experience that celebrates the love, connection, and joy within your family. I'm committed to capturing moments that you'll treasure for a lifetime, and I look forward to creating beautiful memories with you.
How do we choose a location?
What do we wear to our session?
Choosing what to wear for a family photography session is an important aspect of ensuring that your photos turn out beautifully.
Here are some tips to help you decide on outfits that will complement each other and create cohesive and visually appealing images:
1. Coordinate colors but avoid matching exactly. Choose two or three main colors and mix them throughout the outfits. This creates visual interest without looking too uniform.
2. Soft, neutral tones often work well for outdoor settings. I also suggest thinking about your home decor. Choose colors that compliment your home. Avoid bright and neon colors. Similarly, all-white outfits can sometimes wash out in photos, so consider adding some color or mixing in different shades of white or cream.
3. Layers and texture add interest. Consider adding layers like cardigans, jackets, scarves, or vests. Mixing textures can also add visual interest to your photos—try incorporating fabrics like denim, lace, knit, or linen in 1-2 outfits.
4. Avoid tight, uncomfortable clothing. Make sure everyone feels comfortable and confident in their outfits. Avoid anything that is too tight, restrictive, or uncomfortable, especially for children.
5. Add clothes with movement. Dresses are always beautiful in photos because of the movement they provide.
6. Mamas-choose your outfit first! You deserve to feel absolutely beautiful so find something for you first and then coordinate everyone else's outfits around yours.
I've built several Pinterest boards that you can browse for ideas and color palettes.
Together, we'll choose a location that suits your family's personality and interests. Whether it's a scenic outdoor spot, a cozy park, your home, or any other meaningful location, we'll find the perfect backdrop for your photos. Ultimately, the best location for your photography session is one that reflects your personality, style, and vision for the photos.
Side note, any locations more than 30 minutes from Lexington, SC will incur a travel fee. If a location requires a fee to use the space, it will be added to the client's session fee.
